The Project — Doraemon Event Visitor Lanyards
For a major Doraemon-themed exhibition in Malaysia, the event organiser needed eye-catching visitor lanyards that doubled as collectible souvenirs. The brief was clear: full-colour character artwork covering the entire lanyard, vibrant enough to excite fans and durable enough to last the full multi-day event.
We produced 1,000 pieces using dye sublimation printing on 20mm polyester lanyards. Sublimation was the only method that could reproduce the full-colour Doraemon artwork — gradients, fine details, and multiple characters — edge-to-edge without any colour limitation. The ink is infused directly into the polyester fibres, so the print cannot peel, crack, or wash off.
Each lanyard was fitted with a bulldog clip for easy badge attachment and a safety breakaway buckle for crowd safety. Visitors wore them as event passes and many kept them as memorabilia long after the event ended — exactly the kind of brand extension the organiser was aiming for.

What Made This Project Special
The challenge with character-based artwork is reproducing fine details faithfully at lanyard scale. Doraemon’s distinctive blue, white, and red colour palette had to be exact — fans would instantly notice any deviation. Our sublimation process uses CMYK colour profiling calibrated to Pantone references, ensuring the output matched the licensed artwork down to the tiniest detail.
The artwork wrapped continuously around both sides of the lanyard, creating a seamless visual when worn around the neck. We worked directly with the event organiser’s design team to optimise the artwork layout for the 20mm width — scaling characters and text so everything remained legible and visually balanced at actual size.
The event organiser reported that the lanyards were one of the most photographed items at the exhibition, with visitors posting them on social media alongside their event badges. Several hundred additional pieces were reordered mid-event after the original batch was distributed faster than expected.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can sublimation print any image, including photographs?
Yes. Dye sublimation can reproduce any image — photographs, gradients, character artwork, complex patterns — with no colour limitations. The only requirement is that the artwork file is at least 300dpi for sharp results.
Why does sublimation only work on polyester lanyards?
Sublimation ink bonds chemically with polyester fibres during the heat transfer process. Nylon and woven materials don’t accept sublimation ink the same way. For nylon or woven lanyards, silkscreen printing is the recommended method.
Will the print fade or peel over time?
No. Unlike surface printing, sublimation ink is infused into the fabric fibres. There is no ink layer sitting on top of the material, so there is nothing to peel or crack. The print is as permanent as the lanyard itself.
How long does production take for sublimation lanyards?
Standard production is 7–12 working days after artwork approval. Sublimation takes slightly longer than silkscreen due to the heat transfer process. Rush orders are available — ask us when you request your quote.
Can I print different designs on each lanyard?
Yes, sublimation supports variable data printing. You can produce different designs, names, or colours within the same order. Each unique design requires a minimum of 300 pieces.
