Orientation is the first thing to settle, and it is decided by the card, not by preference. Delegate badges, visitor passes and student cards are almost always printed tall, because a photo above a name reads faster than the two side by side. Vertical also hangs narrower, so it swings less on a walk between buildings and catches less on a turnstile arm. Where it goes wrong is office access cards, which are usually landscape — if that is what your staff wear daily, the horizontal version uses the same leather, window and D-ring. Order a sample of each and hold your own pass against them before committing to two hundred.

One note on finish: this holder is lychee-grain, which hides scuffs and fingerprints well but softens fine detail in a debossed logo. If the artwork has thin lettering or a tagline under a wordmark, the smooth leather version presses it more crisply.
