Custom Soft PVC Shoe Charms with Push-Through Plug

Soft PVC charms moulded to the outline of your artwork, each with a round plug on the back that pushes through the holes in a moulded clog and holds behind it. The face is built up in layers of coloured material rather than printed, and the plug is moulded as part of the piece.

The plug is the engineering, not the face. Everyone judges these on the artwork, but the part that decides whether they work is the stem and disc on the back. It has to squeeze through a hole smaller than itself, then open out and sit flat behind it — which means it is moulded firmer than the decorative front. Too soft and it pulls back out in a day; too hard and it will not go in without a fight, or it tears the shoe. If you are quoting against a cheaper sample, press the plug between finger and thumb: a charm that fails in the field almost always fails here, not on the picture.

These are small parts, and that rules out some audiences. A charm this size is a choking hazard for very young children, which is why commercially made ones carry an under-threes warning. It is worth deciding that before you order rather than after: they are a good giveaway for teenagers, students, staff and event crowds, and a poor one for a family day where toddlers will be handling them. If the audience includes small children, a larger moulded piece or a printed item is the safer call. We can supply them bagged with a warning label if you need it.

They are bought in sets, so design them as a family. Nobody wears one charm. A pair of shoes takes several, which means a brand that commissions four or six designs meant to be seen together gets a far better result than one that commissions a single logo repeated. Spread the brand across the set — a mark, a mascot, a word, an icon — rather than putting the whole identity on every piece.

The plug is cut to a hole size, so tell us the shoe before the mould. Clog-style shoes are not standardised: the hole diameter varies between brands and between adult and children sizes, and the plug has to be matched to it. A plug cut for one shoe can be loose in a wider hole and impossible to fit in a narrower one. If the charms are going out with a specific shoe — a uniform shoe, a school shoe, a branded pair — send us one physical shoe or the hole diameter before tooling. Changing it afterwards means a new mould, because the plug is moulded as part of the piece and cannot be swapped.
