Colour count drives the cost here, not size. This is the thing that surprises people who are used to pricing print. A soft PVC piece is made by filling each coloured area separately into its own cell in an engraved mould, so the work is proportional to how many distinct colours your artwork has, not to how big the piece is. A small badge with eight colours takes more labour than a larger one with three. If a quote comes back higher than you expected, the fastest lever is usually merging two similar shades rather than shrinking the piece. Fine lines fight the material, so detail comes from layers instead. The PVC is soft and flows as it fills, which means very thin strokes and hairline text lose definition or fill unevenly — they are the first thing to go wrong on a cheap mould. The way around it is not finer lines but depth: elements are raised to different heights so they read as separate objects, with a raised keyline holding the outline. Look at the samples here and you will see the windows are chunky blocks and the lettering sits inside solid lozenges rather than being drawn as thin characters. If your artwork depends on fine type or hairline detail, tell us early, because it may need redrawing for this process or may simply suit a printed material better.

One mould, then the unit price stops moving. The engraved mould is a one-time cost tied to your shape, not to your quantity, so the gap between 500 pcs and 2,000 pcs is narrower than most buyers assume — the tooling is already paid for. It also means a reorder of the same design months later skips that cost entirely. If you are planning a campaign in phases, keep the artwork identical across phases and only the per-piece cost applies the second time.
