Custom Die-Cut Fridge Magnet Set in a Printed Blister Card

The card is not packaging, it is the product. A set sold through a gift shop or attraction counter has to hang on a hook, carry a barcode, and survive being picked up and put down fifty times. That means the card is doing retail work, not wrapping: hang hole position, board weight, and whether there is room for a barcode and a safety line all get decided at the card tooling stage. Adding a hang hole or a barcode panel later means a new card die, so it is worth settling whether these will ever be sold rather than given away before the first one is made.

Tooling is counted in moulds, not in magnets. A set of five designs is five moulds, and that is the single biggest line in the quote — not the quantity of magnets. Two or three moulds used in different colourways, or one mould with variant inserts, can halve the tooling bill and still read as a set on the card. If the budget is tight, reduce the number of distinct shapes before you reduce the number of pieces.

A set is sold by the card, so the weakest magnet decides the price. Buyers judge a boxed or carded set on the piece they like least, which changes how the designs should be chosen: five strong shapes beat three strong ones plus two filler pieces added to make up a number. It also matters for the mould budget above — a filler design still costs a full mould, so it is the worst value item in the whole set. If you only have three ideas that genuinely work, sell a set of three.
